Indio Senior Center Solo Show

I have a solo show at the Indio Senior Center for the month of November.  You can drop by and see it even if you’re not a senior!  It’s on the wall of the hallway to the left of the reception desk.

Director Nancy Vance took a pic of me with them. Yaay, it’s cool enough now to be not wearing shorts and a tank top!

Jan Wright solo show.

On Friday I had the pleasure of hanging Jan Wright’s solo show at the Vanguard Gallery in Moreno Valley.

Monthly newsletter

This month is shaping up to be really interesting – as you can read in my Newsletter.

One of the things that I didn’t mention is that I’m also involved in curating another solo show at the Vanguard Gallery, this time for long-time associate Nick Foschi.   I’ll get to hang two shows in two days.  About 50 linear feet for Nick and about 7 for me!  Just hoping that my flu symptoms wane enough to give a demo/talk on Wednesday evening in Redondo Beach.

Solo Show for August

JeniBateVanguardAug2017-1_wOne of the things that didn’t get on camera when I was taking photos of my Paint-the-night class was that earlier in the afternoon Rick (Rick Archer, President of Moreno Valley Cultural Arts Foundation and Vanguard Gallery) and I had hung up a 14-painting solo show on the left wall.

JeniBateVanguardAug2017-2_w<Sigh> this is by far the first time that I have put up a solo show and promptly forgotten to take any photos of it.   Senior moment!

JeniBateVanguardAug2017-3_wBlissfully I was passing not far from the gallery on Monday morning and (seeing as I’m on the advisory committee and one of the tutors and I have a key to the gallery) stopped in to rectify this.  The show will be up through August and there will be a reception on August 19th, 7-8pm.  Rick should have the labels up by then!  Actually many of these are available through my Etsy store at the moment (though it might take a little longer than promised to ship….).

The final line-up in Yuma.

Jeni Bate Solo show at Yuma Fine Arts CenterI got to the Yuma Fine Arts gallery about an hour and a half before the reception.  I needed to repair one of the paintings which had a scuff from being loaded into or out of the truck – that wasn’t a big job, so it only took about 30 mins.

Jeni Bate Solo show at Yuma Fine Arts CenterWhile I was waiting for the paint and glaze to dry I took some pics of the final line up of the show.  You can see from later pics that nibbles are appearing on the tables.

Jeni Bate Solo show at Yuma Fine Arts CenterThe reception was quite well attended and I spent a busy few hours talking to a lot of people. (And not having time to take photos to show that it was busy!)  We sold about four books and one painting.  Martha, the gallerist, noted that usually the larger purchase come after people have slept on the decision.

Jeni Bate Solo show at Yuma Fine Arts CenterDuring the reception there was a short ballet demo in the main gallery – Yuma has its own ballet company!  I was also introduced as not only a visual artist, but a poet, and read one of the poems from my new book, Mixed Weather.
