I should have done this last week, but sometimes things don’t get on a list…. anyway, these shows are still up for a few weeks left, so if you’re in the area, there’s still time to enjoy them.
The 29Palms Art Gallery has the Guild Summer show in the Main and Center Galleries, and in the West Gallery, Tim Warren and Ted Wright in a 2-person show.
The 29 Palms Gallery is open Thursday-Sunday 11-3pm.
One of my friends noticed that I was in the Hi Desert Star this week – one of the artists mentioned at the recent 29Palms Art Gallery Spring Faire a couple weeks ago.

Last weekend I was at the 29 Palms Art Gallery pretty much all weekend. On the Saturday we had an art fair during the day and in the evening was the reception for the Membership Show, which was a judged show.

There just wasn’t a good angle on this one for the camera.
The Pickering Gallery had a nice selection. As I was looking around the show early in the morning, I was approached by someone who wanted to buy one of the artworks in there.
There was quite a bit of 3-D art. This one won a ribbon.
The West gallery contained something familiar. Again, I was struggling with glare…
I’d seen David’s work before and it was good to finally meet him because he had a booth at the fair that day.
On Sunday my co-worker at the gallery was Miri, whose painting is on the left here. She is also a singer and sang at the reception when I had my first show at the Glass Outhouse Gallery a couple years ago. I have a CD of hers.
Earlier in the month I’d encourage Tim to create something to enter the show. He won best of show!
Another weather-related tale to follow the drizzle in Arizona. Last Friday I was scheduled to sit in the gift-shop at the 29 Palms Art Gallery, and was also going to take artwork in for the upcoming membership judged show. I knew that there had been a little snow in the high desert because Snake Jagger had posted a picture of some snow in his front yard in Morongo Valley on Wednesday.
I love snow in the low desert: it’s up there on the mountains, where it looks pretty, not down here in the driveway where you have to shovel it.
On the Thursday afternoon, Darlene who is the scheduler at the 29 Palms Gallery called me and said that the previous day the grade between Morongo Valley and Yucca Valley had been closed because of snow on Wednesday and that it was snowing in Yucca Valley right now and was forecast to continue snowing until 11pm and freeze overnight. She thought the chances of my making it to the gallery safely the next day were slim and had called in a possible substitute.
I said let’s wait until the morning to see. Friday morning I called her and she said the sun was shining and everything was melting. Caltrans website confirmed the 62 was open so I set out.

I had to stop in Yucca Valley to pick up a painting that Raini had collected for me from the prior show so I was able to take an unusual photo – me with snow.

I had considered taking a pic of me holding a snowball but the thought of cold wet hands made me reconsider. This is quite close enough to the snow for me.
Yesterday I was a gallery docent and gift store clerk at the 29 Palms Art Gallery in – guess where – 29 Palms!
I had a solo show there a couple years ago and this time I entered a painting into the annual membership show. One of the requirements is to gallery sit for a day so off I went.
Something looks familiar here
I’d not gallery sat here before so there was a bit of a learning curve, but there was good documentation for new and rusty docents to follow. When I arrived, a group of the board were doing some envelope stuffing for membership renewals, so I was able to help out there too. Many of the board members stayed through part of my day so I had help.
And I needed it. I had a couple who went into the gift store and chose something to purchase. I had been shown the ropes a little regarding the iPad with the Square on it, and read the manual, but was not prepared for the fact the iPad wouldn’t turn on. It turned out to be a faulty socket where it was plugged in!
There were inevitably a lot of questions I couldn’t answer, but a few that I could. By the end of the afternoon I was a lot more confident of the next time I’m going to be there.

The pics are of the membership show in the central gallery. There was also a historical show in the main gallery and a solo show in the west gallery – along with no information about the artists, Reuven Wallach, which didn’t help!
Sorry I didn’t get the pic of the third wall of the membership show, a gallery visitor walked in at that point, then we were busy until closing time.
“Tranquility with tree”
Last month, from my show at 29 Palms Gallery, I sold a painting that went to its forever home in Wisconsin. “Tranquility with Tree” has a special place in my heart – my some-times art dealer Rick Pantele and I put a 5×10 foot giclee version of it into an office at Kaiser Permanente. Tranquility with Tree also spent about two years in the Pioneer’s Museum in Imperial. I had stopped taking it to shows as it was my last framed piece, and the last one in a series is always the hardest one to sell. So I was delighted it sold a couple weeks after coming out of the museum, from a gallery where it got to hang on its own little wall and didn’t stand out like a sore thumb.
In shipping it to Wisconsin, I got to talking to the client – whom I have not met – and he kept in touch through the reframing and sent me a picture of my baby in its Forever Home. Then he ordered a commission painting to go with it! The sibling went out in the mail today and I will hopefully have a portrait of the two of them together in due course.

So, a week after the reception, talk and workshop, I finally get around to uploading pix from the gallery. I have a solo show in the main gallery of 29 Palms Art Gallery through the end of the month – so if you’re in the high desert, stop by if you can! If you think the workshop looks fun (it is****), I run them elsewhere, or can schedule a private one for a group of the right size in Southern California.
