Inspired by the stars

The other night we were sitting outside watching the meteor show, and between falling stars I was making up constellations.  This came out of this!

The Dandelion Constellation.

Above the roof
The dandelion constellation
Grows from the southern horizon
The stem bending to the west
The cluster of stars forming the crown
That could so easily have been rearranged
Taller to form a tulip
Or flatter to describe an umbrella.

Below the moonless sky
The dandelion constellation
Grows as if there is no time
We can comprehend
Only the eons in which
a nebula’s kiss blew at its crown
creating our skyfull of stars
blowing in the galactic wind.

Newer work #100

This painting was done in a different way than the majority of my mixed media pieces.  Although I had the two (yes, just two) pieces leftover from a cut, it was enough.  Then I cut the panel specifically to fit the art I was going to make (usually the panel is a separate inspiration), and then I painted the underlying acrylic first – to work with the clouds cut-out before I put the watercolor part on.  Then the poetry.

#1429 Soul Shape. 27×5″ mixed media on solid panel.  $135.

It’s easier to figure out what it looks like when you can see it on a wall.

Holy Ground

As light rises
My eyes fall
Upon his temple
Arm raised to ease the pain
Of the damage of an old storm,
Lips pursed against
A dream he won’t remember
Reminding me
Of last night’s worship
With the temple of my own soul’s abode
Happy that these buildings
Are now anchored together
And hoping to join against
The weather of life times
As long as they stand.

To the flower.

To the flower.

I’m sorry,
that had to be incomprehensible pain
to be ripped from your plant
just when you were blooming
hoping for bees
to fertilize
to make seeds, a future.

But he plucked you I know,
doing it in love
of your beauty,
of me,
of the day.

He brought it with hearts in his eyes
one sunny morning
wanting nothing but to make me smile.

I talked to him later,
asked that next time he bring a photo,
leaving other flowers where I like them,
still on the plant.

He said he’d plucked you from a patch of your family
like a field of orange,
the world might not miss just you.

Then perhaps you can forgive him,
of your kind there were so many
and of him, that man,
and the love he has for me,
there is only one.

Just Wow

Today’s inspiration.   I just love living here.

A Forever home

Yes, it is possible to sell art during the pandemic.  A major collector saw one of my ‘Newer Work’ posts and decided to treat herself.  I’m not only blessed with the sale, but also the pic of the painting in its new Forever Home.  Although she says she might move things around.

The painting is called “Sky Comes Down”.

It contains the following haiku:
Sky comes down to us,
At every angle the rain
that might wash us clean.
