A place among the winners – follow up

Last month I shared that I had some of my work accepted into the ‘Seascapes’ show with an online gallery in the UK, and that they were going to create a little video of the winners, showing their art as it would look on a wall.  Well, HERE it is!

One of the advantages about online showcases is that the work doesn’t have to be available, and the particular painting that is in the video went to its forever home some time ago.  One of the disadvantages, I guess, of having someone mock-up the video is that the painting is depicted much larger than it actually is.  Oh well!

Monthly newsletter

Well, I guess I must be getting old because when I came to schedule the posting of September’s newsletter, I discovered I’d forgotten to post August’s newsletter to WordPress.  So if you only follow me on WordPress you get a double header.  If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you get a repeat!

Newer Work #84

I am usually willing to do commissions that will not be chosen.  I often do a couple of commissions when making a refractured watercolor or mixed media because if it doesn’t it the spot, it can just go into show stock and someone else will love it.

Just Chillin’ II started as a commission and the potential customer didn’t fall in love with it – in part because it wasn’t going to look good in the house because the wall colors weren’t conducive.  So, another 16×20″ matted painting is in the bin this weekend.

A place amongst the winners

I had this email in my in box yesterday:

Hi
You’ve won a place in our Seascapes Winner’s Video – well done!
I shall be in touch to let you know when the video has been made.
Congratulations!

Kindest Regards
Jean

Here are the images I submitted.  One of the nice things about this type of competition is that I can submit pieces that are in their forever homes – which is useful when there’s a theme that I don’t have much current work that fits it.

Anniversary at the Vanguard

My strong association with the Vanguard Gallery in Moreno Valley – I teach there, curate about a third of the year’s shows and sit on the advisory committee – goes back pretty much to its inception 7 years ago.  For August Rick didn’t have a theme he wanted to work on and I couldn’t find another artist so I had to fill the walls myself.  I had lost track of the years, but the reception is going to be the 7th Anniversary of the Vanguard.  A few special items will be scheduled, including a mini petting zoo with some rabbits and birds, and probably Rick will come up with some other things between now and then – then being August 11th 5-7pm.  In the mean time, here’s the show wall of the gallery.

Newer work #83

“Heartrise” is one for the raising of the saddened soul – the words are written first on a lower heart, then on a couple higher ones.  It was one that I thought was appropriate for the competition “Gateway to Imagination” for which it is entered.  I won’t find out if it is accepted until late August, though.

Newer work #82

Some of my newer pieces are just flying off the wall.  No, it hasn’t been windy, it’s just that a few are going out at every show, which ends up being before I can post them.  So, before the next show this weekend, here’s one of the new babies.  It’s one of those where the writing is more obvious.  It says “Chance will take you places you would never go alone.”
