Last night I guided a small group through a paint and wine class at Vanguard Gallery in Moreno Valley. One of my students had already taken classes with me, including the Absolute Beginners class and was happy to work through this painting of winter solstice sunrise across the Salton Sea to hone some of the skills.

We’re doing an underpainting to get rid of the white so in the final painting we’re not strugging with that aspect

We’re painting the sky part of the top coat

It’s easier to paint the bottom of the panel when it’s upside down.

Adding the sun.

All done!
They all seems pleased with their work – ell done for bringing them on – much better than I could do – believe me!

That, my dear, is because you haven’t had the lessons and 17 years of practice. There are plenty of things that you can do that I can’t, for the same reason. Like my French speaking friends won’t talk French with me….

This morning I looked at the ocean and saw the zig zags of color and how the colors mixed. Looking is just like painting sometimes.

Yes! Much of painting is being able to see it like an artist in the first place.

I’m glad you taught me how to paint water. I finally painted a Shark for my granddaughter and he has water to swim in. Don’t know how to attach the painting to this comment, however.

Hi Wendy – I’m not sure you can attach it to a comment, but if you email it to me, I can put it as a post.
