Occasionally, adding the foreground is an excuse to hide a boo boo. In watercolor, it can be a bit of a decision between working over a small unwanted dark spot in the middle of a light area, and working to pick it up and repaint that area. Sometimes the situation lends itself to one or the other. This time I could’ve picked up those two dots, but it popped into my head to connect them instead, and put in a skein of geese. As a counterpoint to another recent painting, ‘Up, down, up’, I thought I would put them all on the upstroke. Hence the name.
